Brink Festival receives Iowa Arts Council grant

Brink Festival is now supported, in part, by the Iowa Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. The organizing committee successfully applied for and received an Iowa Arts Council Organizational Mini-Grant.

These grants are designed to fund "exemplary arts projects that benefit Iowa's and the needs of Iowa communities. Collaborations and the exploration of new experiences for audiences are encouraged." The reviewing committee cited the "holistic" approach to organizing the event.

Brink Festival to feature renowned Irish Uillean Piper

Uillean Piper Tim Britton is set to headline the first ever Brink Festival of World Music Saturday, October 3rd at the River Music Experience in downtown Davenport, Iowa. Tim Britton is among the foremost of a generation making innovative contributions to the Irish tradition. These compelling tunes and bittersweet songs formed the basis of much of American music and have since risen to be one of the most dynamic areas in world music.

Although he is best known for his virtuosity on the rare Uillean pipes (pron. ill-en - a sophisticated Irish bagpipe), wooden flute and tin whistle, he's been known to try his hand at the Highland pipes, mandolin, and an occasional song or story. His unique approach as an American with many influences is founded on a thorough knowledge of the tradition.
